Police drain park pond to recover £10,000 cocaine and heroin haul 'dumped by fleeing dealer'

Officers fished 150 bags of the Class A drugs from the slime of the ornamental lake after pumping out 80,000 gallons of water

A stash of heroin and cocaine with a street value of £10,000 was found dumped in a park pond where children played with toy boats.

Police fished 150 bags of the Class A drugs from the slime of the ornamental lake after chasing a drug suspect who dived in, allegedly dumping the stash.

After marching him off they ordered 80,000 gallons of water to be pumped out of the pond as shocked families looked on in Victoria Park in Newbury, Berks.

Mum Joanne Thorne, 27, who saw the drama unfold as three-year-old son Kasey played nearby, said: “Luckily it’s only about two feet deep so there was no danger of him drowning.
